Acrylic polymer-modified, light gray, very high-yielding, calcium aluminate cement based, dust-reduced thinset/medium-bed (flow-bed) and leveling mortar with high early strength and reliable curing even at lower temperatures. For application thicknesses up to 20 mm ¾” in interior, exterior and submerged areas. According to DIN EN 12004 C2 FTE-S1. ANSI A118.15 LHTpending.
Servoflex 5 royal is particularly suitable for installation of large-format coverings (not suitable for thin gauged porcelain slabs), fine stoneware and corresponding natural stone coverings on conditionally deformable substrates such as heated screeds, screeds based on cement and calcium sulfate, mastic asphalt screeds, in-situ concrete (at least 3 months old) and others. By increasing the water ratio to approx. 5.88 liters per 12.5 kg / 1.55 US gal. per 27.5 lbs., a very supple mortar consistency is present, which eliminates the need to back-butter tile in many instances and provides full mortar transfer (a 100% leveled substate is required). This applies to interior areas. When installing particularly large-format flooring material, the combined process (back-buttering) may be required for optimum mortar transfer (lift tile to see the coverage before commencing installation on a larger scale). Due to the special aluminate cement binder base, no efflorescence is possible when using Servoflex 5 royal, particularly useful in outdoor areas. In addition, there is an increased resistance to acids and temperature resistance compared to Portland cement-bound products.
Servoflex 5 royal is classified according to GEV EMICODE EC1 Plus.
Meets the guidelines for flexible mortars.
The substrate must be ready for covering, clean and structurally sound. When installing on still shrinking substrates, limit the maximum areas sizing by adding by movement joints. Clean old coatings with an alkaline based cleaner. In interior areas, prime absorbent substrates with Okatmos® DSG or Okatmos® UG 30. This applies to a max. layer thickness of 20 mm/ ¾”.
Prime non-absorbent substrates with Okatmos® DSG or Okatmos® UG 30. Prime exterior mineral substrates with Okatmos® UG 30 or Okatmos® DSG. On horizontal existing outdoor surfaces, prime with Okatmos® UG 30 or Okatmos® DSG and apply Servoflex DMS 1K Plus SuperTec.
Double layered plywood substrates must be dry, APA-rated, Type 1, COFI Group exterior-grade plywood, certified CANPLY (SELECT) or (SEL-TF) CSA 121, minimum 32 mm (1 ¼ “) total thickness in residential and light commercial and dry conditions only. Refer to ANSI A 108 AN-2 “General Requirements for Sub surfaces” and the Tile Council of North America’s “Handbook for Ceramic Tile Installation” for detailed information on surface preparation and guidelines for substrate construction. Provide expansion joints and control joints as specified per TCNA Detail EJ171; #301-MJ or TTMAC Specification Guide. Follow plywood installation guidelines and requirements located in Tile Council of North America’s “Handbook for Ceramic Tile Installation” and TTMAC Specification Guide. Follow deflection allowance in accordance with ASTM C627 Standard test method. In some cases, the maximum deflection must not exceed L/720.
Follow additional installation and floor preparation guidelines located in the latest TTMAC and TCNA installation manuals. Contact Kiesel technical department for additional recommendations related to the tile sizes and installation over approved double layered plywood.
Mix Servoflex 5 royal with clean and cool water until free of lumps. Allow 5 minutes slake time and re-mix throughly. Unevenness of the substrate can be leveled during installation if its within our ¾” thickness parameters. Larger unevenness’s up to 20 mm / ¾” can be leveled by preparing a levelling layer, which should then be left for approx. 4 - 6 hours or until the thinset can be walked on. 6 hours or until it is ready to be walked on before starting
to install tiles. Apply Servoflex 5 royal to the substrate using a proper trowel suitable for the area of application, which ensures full mortar transfer of the covering material, and push the covering material into the fresh adhesive bed and press down. Depending on the absorbency of the substrate/covering, corrections can still be made within approx. 30 minutes. Servoflex 5 royal mixed and thickened in the bucket can be mixed without adding water, even several times, until the hardening starts after approx. 1.5 hours to achieve the initial consistency (Continued Mortar Consistency Technology).
